In 1999 entrepreneurs Michael Solomon and Vivek J. Tiwary both lost loved ones to cancer. As a thank you to the facility that cared for his girlfriend before she died of sarcoma, Michael organized a concert in the lobby of Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in Manhattan that featured a performance by Wynton Marsalis. The concert’s effect on the atmosphere of the place was so uplifting, and so instantaneous, that Michael and Vivek decided they needed to bring such experiences to more people, particularly those who are too ill to leave their rooms.
So Musicians On Call was born.
