About Musicians On Call

Musicians On Call brings live and recorded music to the bedsides of patients in healthcare facilities.

In 1999 entrepreneurs Michael Solomon and Vivek J. Tiwary both lost loved ones to cancer. As a thank you to the facility that cared for his girlfriend before she died of sarcoma, Michael organized a concert in the lobby of Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in Manhattan that featured a performance by Wynton Marsalis. The concert’s effect on the atmosphere of the place was so uplifting, and so instantaneous, that Michael and Vivek decided they needed to bring such experiences to more people, particularly those who are too ill to leave their rooms.

So Musicians On Call was born.

Musicians On Call (MOC) is now the nation’s leading provider of live music in hospitals. For over 20 years MOC has brought live and recorded music to the bedsides of patients in healthcare facilities ranging from children’s hospitals to adult facilities, VA hospitals and hospices. To date, its volunteers have played for over 830,000 patients, families and care- givers across the country.

MOC supporters over the years include Bruce Springsteen, Kelly Clarkson, Luke Bryan, Keith Urban, Sia, Jason Derulo, Blake Shelton, Ed Sheeran, Reba McEntire, James Taylor, Lady A, Darius Rucker, Pharrell, Amos Lee, Nick Jonas, Camila Cabello, Kelsea Ballerini, Charles Esten and many more.

MOC has a vision of a world filled with the healing power of music. As many people experience uncertainty and isolation during the COVID-19 pandemic, this vision is more critical now than ever. Thanks to its virtual programs, Musicians On Call is currently one of the few charities that is still able to provide programs directly to patients and caregivers in hospitals.

With social distancing, more people are experiencing the same stress and anxiety that patients often feel when in the hospital, so MOC is focusing its efforts on bringing welcome relief to both hospital patients and anyone feeling isolated at this time. MOC has streamlined its programming to meet the demand of hospital partners and offer program solutions that continue to give patients and caregivers access to music that supports the healing process by improving mood, pain tolerance and mental outlook, and providing a human connection.
